10 Reasons Why I Love Living in Florida

Every state has its perks and its downsides. And I've lived in a few of those states... 7 to be exact. But I'll tell you the 10 reasons why I love living in Florida.

Reason #1: The Weather

This is probably the most obvious answer because well, duh—the weather in Florida is beautiful! You can spend time outside all year round. No sprinting from your car to the house in an effort to fend off frostbite. Instead, you can hit the trails, walk the beach, or lounge in your back yard basically any day you want.

Reason #2: Healthier Lifestyle

Now it’s definitely possible to live a healthy lifestyle anywhere you want by making good choices, but I will say it’s been easier for me here in Florida.

Why?

Part of it is because I can stay active all year. I don’t always want to hit the gym and I like being outside. On top of that, there are tons of healthy food options in the Tampa Bay area.

Reason #3: The Beaches

I lived in Hawaii as a child and it spoke to my soul. Ever since then, I’ve been a beach baby at heart. So when it came time to decide where I wanted to go in life, it was obvious to me that I needed somewhere where I can feel the sand in my toes, the salt in my hair, and the sun on my skin.

Reason #4: The Food

Do you love food? I love food! Florida has lots of good food! Whether you want Mexican, Italian, American, Chinese, Greek, Thai, or any other food that tickles your fancy, there are options galore in around Tampa. Need some recommendations? I’ve got plenty!

Reason #5: The Nightlife

I’m a somewhat diverse person. I like visiting museums, seeing plays, going to the movies, racing go-karts, hitting up the beach, rock climbing, or even sipping on ciders at a dive bar. If you like any of those things, there are activities for you! And there’s even more than the few things I just listed. You can basically try something new every weekend and never run out of things to do.

Reason #6: Easy Travel

This might seem far-fetched because Florida juts off the edge of the United States, but there are several airports around the Tampa Bay area that make it easy to hop on a plane and get the heck out of dodge. (The best part is, you can usually get a good deal—especially on international travel!)

Reason #7: The People

Florida’s got such an eclectic mix of people and I love that! You’ll meet all sorts of people as you navigate your daily life and they come from various walks of life, so if you have an open mind, you’ll learn a lot and hear some truly great stories.

Reason #8: The Sunsets

There’s just something about watching the sunset that soothes the soul and the Tampa Bay area (since it’s on the West Coast of Florida) has some stellar views. Especially in the winter. They’re so vivid and bright. Lots of people venture down to the water’s edge at night just to see the sunset. It’s a lovely way to end the day.

Reason #9: The Plant Life

Here’s my nerdy side peeking through… I’m a bit of a green geek. I love growing plants and seeing lush greenery outside. Science says there are strong benefits from having plants in your life, but I also just think they’re so dang beautiful. And that’s part of what makes living in Florida so great. There are pretty plants everywhere! From plumeria, to palm trees, to magnolias, to lilies, your eyes will see plants nearly anywhere you look.

Reason #10: The Wildlife

I’ll confess, I’m a sucker for a little gecko or a sunbathing turtle… I love seeing animals enjoying their natural habitat and Florida has a vast variety of fascinating species. You can see dolphins and manatees, and iguanas, and deer, and tree frogs, and sting rays, and more.

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons to love living in Florida. It’s a beautiful state with wonderful weather and plenty of other perks.

Are you considering moving to Florida? Let’s talk about it in the comments! I’d love to answer any questions you have about making the move.
